DEKA are holding a Spring Running Extravaganza on 4th and 5th March 2017. As part of the weekends’s events there will be a chance to people to give the growing sport of canicross a try.
For those who don’t know, canicross is a sport that involves running off-road with your dog. The human participant wears a waistbelt which attaches via a 2-metre bungee line to a padded dog harness. It’s a great way of keeping both you and your dog fit and it provides a physical workout for both of you. The use of directional commands will help your dog to learn to use his brain and build up his confidence.
As part of our Spring Running Extravaganza weekend, you can give canicross a try!
TRY A TRAIL RUN
We are very lucky to have local group Wessex Canicross on our doorstep and they will be leading people out on short trail runs through the beautiful Longleat Forest on Saturday 4th March.
You can meet Wessex Canicross in the car park at Heaven’s Gate, Longleat anytime between 10.30 and 12.30 on the Saturday. Don’t worry about bringing any specialist canicross kit with you if you don’t own any – Wessex Canicross will have harnesses available for humans and hounds if needed. Just bring your trainers and something comfortable to run in and you will be good to go! This is a great opportunity to give the sport a try if it’s something you’ve been thinking about doing.
GET FITTED WITH CANICROSS KIT
In addition to the trail runs, on Saturday 4th March Emily from K9 Trail Time will be joining us at DEKA all day. Emily will be available to advise and fit the perfect canicross harness and line for you and your dog, making this the ideal time to come and find out more about what you need to participate in canicross and to get yourself and your dog properly kitted out.
